About Me
I am a software engineer 💻, cybersecurity expert 🔒, computer scientist 🧑🔬, and information technologist 🔧. I’m also an old 👴. I got my first computer 🖥️ — an 8088 — in 1985! I learned to program in BASIC and use MS-DOS on it ⌨️. I started programming in C on a Sun SPARCstation in 1993 :sun:. I did not own that computer, at least, not in the literal sense, but boy did I have fun with it! 😉 😄 I used Mosaic to read Yahoo! in 1995 🌐 but I spent more time using Archie, FTP and Telnet back then 💾.
I got a B.Sc. in Computer Science from Memorial University in 2001 🎓. From there I went to work for a federally funded technology lab that no longer exists 🤷. But not all was lost, the contributions I made to the FreeBSD MAC Framework while working there were free and open source 🐧. I have continued to create and contribute to various open source projects over the years ❤️. I publish what I create in Gists and on GitHub. I use this GPG key to sign my commits and releases 🔑.
I have a LinkedIn profile 💼 where I detail my professional experience which includes 8 years in software security and architecture and engineering roles in financial services 🏦 before ultimately founding my IT services company, The Migus Group in 2014 🏢, to enable me to contract independently and provide specialized IT services to a range of clients. I’m also on X where I share updates and insights about whatever I’m working on. Currently that’s CloudServers.app ☁️ and a forthcoming open-source AI/LLM agent harness framework “Lisa.” 🤖
